COMMUNITY CENTRE GETS NEW NAME!
The old Crow Edge Community Centre was officially re-named on Monday 9th June 2008 when the new signage was unveiled by the new Chair of Dunford Parish Council, Cllr Mick Drewry and the Chair of the Dunford Parish Community Association, Doreen Rothery.
Doreen said ‘we changed the name of our gala to The Parish Gala to emphasise the fact that it is an event for the whole of the parish. This led to the decision to also change the name of the Community Centre – it has never actually been in Crow Edge and it is there for the whole parish and surrounding area.’
‘The Community Centre has recently been refurbished. With the help of European funding we secured a new ceiling and the signage was part-funded by a grant from Barnsley Council’s Area Forum.’
‘The Centre is a great venue for anyone and we are fully licensed and equipped and there is the added advantage of the huge field at the back. It is available for hire to everyone at very competitive rates. All monies raised are put straight back into the facilities and the community by way of our gala, which is being held on Saturday 26th July, and our dances, the next being a 70s disco on 2nd August. Details are available on our website, www.dpca.info.’
We do hope that more people will use the Centre; everyone is welcome.
Mick Drewry said ‘the Parish Council is pleased to be working alongside the Community Association to promote the Community Centre as a venue for the whole parish and I hope that this new signage will engender a greater interest.’
