The Mayor of Barnsley has kindly agreed to open the gala and we are looking forward to welcoming him to our event which we hope will be well supported.
We have also invited: South Yorkshire Fire Brigade (who usually come and have a good time), South Yorkshire Police, Penistone Community Radio, Barnsley RAF Cadets and local businesses.
Preceding the gala we are aiming to distribute sunflower seeds to local schools to encourage children of all ages to enter the ‘Tallest Sunflower’ competition which will be judged in the week prior to the gala.
For those of you who are not ‘green-fingered’ but would like to take part, there is also a ‘Most Innovative Scarecrow’ competition, which will also be judged in the week prior to the gala.
Winners of these competitions will be announced at the gala.
We are always looking for helpers with the gala, either in the organisation or on the day. If you feel you can offer any help with the gala please contact us, all help gratefully received.
On 2nd August, at the Community Centre, the annual gala dance is being held. This year this is to be a 70’s disco so dig out your flares and platforms for what should be a really good night. Tickets for the dance will be £4.00 per adult £2.00 for children and a pie and pea supper (with vegetarian option) will be included on the night.
